Job description

Position Description:
The UNM-Valencia Upward Bound Program providesacademic-based after school and summer programs for qualified students whoattend high school in Valencia County at Los Lunas High School, Valencia HighSchool, or Belen High School. This federally funded program is in its tenthyear of instruction and tutoring for first generation (college) and incomeeligible students who intend to graduate from college with a Bachelor's Degree.The Upward Bound After School Tutors assist scheduling tutoring sessions, in thedevelopment of academic and enrichment activities for the high school studentswho commit themselves to positive self-development, leadership, and learning.Assistance ranges from working with students studying to understand basicconcepts in key subject areas, to those who are advanced in skills and are ableto excel with their comprehension and use of the most challenging concepts inperson or virtual. This is a grant funded position that ends 08/30/2020 andwill be renewed annually based on availability of federal funding. The positionis expected to expire on 09/30/2021.
Responsible for all Upward Bound equipment used for tutoring. Maintains a cleanand comfortable study environment.
The current opening requires a work schedule of 4 to 8 hours per week includingtraveling to one of the three High School sites and availability on Mondays,Wednesday and/or Thursdays from 2pm- 4:30pm as well as some Saturdays at 11.50per hour.
Belen High School - English Tutor - Mondays and Wednesdays 11:45-12:57 or2:30-4:30 pm
Los Lunas High School - Math Tutor - Mondays and Thursdays 2:30- 4:30pm
Valencia High School - English/ Math Tutor - Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:30pm
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia county, theUniversity of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of theUniversity of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the regionand is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on teachingexcellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technicalvocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/Collegecourses to Valencia and Socorro Counties.
