Position Summary:
The IT Telecommunications department is looking for an individual with Telecom power engineering experience to join its team. The Senior IT Telecom Analyst / Senior Power Engineer will work in an engineering and delivery role responsible for the design, implementation, testing and documentation of complex AC & DC power solutions used for Telecom infrastructure applications. This position requires a thorough understanding of AC & DC Power Systems, UPS & DC Plant systems, environmental and alarm monitoring systems, grounding systems, and a basic understanding of TCP/IP, routing, and switching. Network automation with programming and scripting are additional skills that are highly valued. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who exceeds with little supervision and works with small teams using Agile engineering principles.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• The successful candidate will design Power Solution to address Duke Energy business needs including the planning, designing, implementing, testing and documentation of the communication systems & network components. This candidate will develop processes to better enable 1st and 2nd level teams to handle support issues along with providing 3rd level advanced support as needed. The successful candidate will be able to:
• Work independently with little direct supervision.
• Prepare engineering job packages (EJPs) consisting of detailed parts / equipment lists, logical installation instructions in relation to individual RF field work and appropriate documentation (drawings, network diagrams, shelf layouts, etc.).
• Ensure cost effective system designs meet business needs with reliable and efficient service.
• Prepare and submit cost estimates, economic studies, and Work Orders for planned installations where required.
• Work effectively with other team members providing coordination leadership to successfully implement projects as needed.
• Maintain familiarity with current telecommunications technology and available facilities.
• Provide technical assistance to NOC, Installation, and Maintenance personnel.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar degree with 6 years direct power engineering work-related experience.
• In lieu of bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree with 10 years direct power engineering work-related experience OR a High School Diploma and 15 years direct power engineering work-related experience
• Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
• Ability to work well within a team, either as a lead or peer member.
• Familiarity with the National Electric Code
• Experience with 240/120 AC power systems
• Experience with 48V and 130V DC power systems
• Experience with backup generating systems
• Familiarity with Grounding Standards for communications shelters and towers
