Description of Work
The Nutrition Education Program (NEP) in Nebraska helps families on a limited budget make healthier food choices and choose physically active lifestyles by acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior changes necessary to improve their health.
As a Nutrition Extension Assistant, you will:
  • Transform lives by teaching (planning and implementing) and evaluating approved educational programming in basic nutrition, food preparation and resource management, physical activity, and/or other grant specific deliverables for low-income audiences in assigned counties.
  • Access learners at appropriate places and times, requiring the ability to travel within service area.
This position is located in Grand Island, NE and serves Hall county. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Extension Assistant.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Degree must be completed by start date.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in nutrition, exercise and health sciences or closely related field.
  • Experience with health related work through other organizations as an employee or volunteer.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Previous work with low-income individuals or community groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, presentation and data management software.
  • Previous experience with program implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to speak language(s) other than English, Spanish preferred.
