Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- Knowledge of intermediate theory and practice of electro-mechanical equipment for operation, computer automation software including INSIGHT, DESIGO, IoT, and BACnet protocols.
- Ability to analyze and identify equipment problems and troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic system issues.
- Experience using computer programs such as MS Office.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills.
- Knowledge of the manual and computerized maintenance and operation of chillers, chilled water production, steam boilers, heat exchangers, steam production, and feed water systems.
- Ability to obtain certification for operating forklifts, genie booms, and scissor lifts through university training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of electric energy generation.
- Experience with electrical and pneumatic controls.
- Experience taking telephone messages and managing communication effectively.
- General Knowledge of electric power systems, grids, generation, transmission, distribution; blue prints and one-line diagrams.
Job Description
Responsible for providing safe, reliable, electrical power, chilled water and steam in a timely and responsive manner to meet the needs of the university.
Job Duties
- Use computer terminals to monitor, control and command equipment in all thermal plants.
- Lead Plant Operator I to physically ensure all equipment is available and prepared to start / stop and to support automated operation of equipment.
- Prepare and complete log sheets, update daily logs and monthly reports for chill water, steam production and water consumption.
- Watch, test, and troubleshoot chemical stations and monitor water chemical levels for equipment protection and energy efficiency.
- Operate, inspect, report, clean, paint, repair, and maintain electromechanical equipment in all campus plants.
- Serve as the point of contact for the University Contact Center and direct business and after-hour phone calls to proper shops for assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Information to Applicants
Plant Operations maintains coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, Sunday through Saturday. Plant Operator work hours may vary, and candidates must be available to work any of the three shifts. Regular shift rotation may occur based on operational needs. Shifts may also be changed occasionally to support Plant Operations. Applicants must be available to work holidays and additional hours as needed.
