Job description

Summary
The Energy Marshal is a safety professional who will ensure the safe execution of energization and isolation activities, with a focus on energy isolation procedures, auditing practices, and providing expert guidance on energy isolation standards. A strong safety background and technical expertise in energy isolation, particularly in data center environment is critical.

Duties

  • Champions "The Layton Way" by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
  • Ensures that "Constructing with Integrity" is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work. 
  • The Energy Marshall requires many different roles with specific duties to manage the commissioning process during construction from pre-energization through project completion and turn over.
  • Managing electrical room access permits and electrical room attendance.
  • Ensure compliance with safe work practices during energization and isolation activities.
  • Responsible for verifying the commission plan and reviewing quality reports.
  • Complete any pre-energization inspections.
  • Responsible for the LOTO program on site.
  • Review and audit energy isolation procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for energy isolation practices and provide guidance to teams.
  • Attends daily and weekly High Risk Activity (HRA) / Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Meetings and provides procedure preparation support associated with Energy Isolation
  • Partner with project teams to identify and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Communicate complex technical solutions and energy-related concepts to both engineers and non-engineers.
  • Audit site practices against established standards as part of the safety assurance role.
  • Interpret line drawings and system redundancies to ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems are designed and implemented effectively and in compliance with standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on energy isolation in environments with multiple energy sources, with a particular focus on electrical systems.
  • Serves as an independent authority for stopping all unsafe work practices regarding Energy Isolation.
  • 7+ years commercial construction experience preferred
  • Participating in Weekly Safety Meetings 

Qualifications                            

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy isolation, safety, or a related field.
  • NFPA 70E Certification.
  • Experience with DC construction and commissioning standards and practices.
  • Ability to understand and ensure the safe installation of electrical equipment across various voltages, including AC and DC systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams to drive process improvements.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Proficiency in auditing site practices against written standards.
  • Familiarity with multiple energy sources, particularly in data centers, with an emphasis on electrical systems.
