Information Technology is a team of passionate software development professionals who deliver a diverse portfolio of technical solutions, including high-performance web applications, APIs and backend processes, that enable members to easily manage their financial lives. A Software Engineer I is a software professional who enjoys solving unique and challenging problems in creative ways. This person thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment and has an enthusiasm for learning. This position builds and maintains high quality software utilizing a variety of technologies. Responsibilities include the analysis, design, coding, testing and review of software solutions. This position will work in an Agile environment and participate in team activities supporting our iterative development process.

Responsibilities

Software Engineering

  • Analyze, design and build software solutions that provide a world class experience to our membership and the organization.
  • Create estimates of work effort, identify dependencies and evaluate potential risks and mitigations.
  • Code software solutions that satisfy identified requirements.
  • Adhere to current engineering best practices and procedures.
  • Leverage leading secure coding practices.
  • Write unit and integration tests to exercise code changes.
  • Design databases according to guidelines that meet performance and audit needs.
  • Integrate vendor software systems into our own solutions.
  • Document and prepare code changes for peer review with appropriate details and testing instructions according to guidelines.
  • Conduct peer reviews according to our code review guidelines.
  • Deploy code changes to development and production environments.

Operational Excellence

  • Take ownership, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and meet quality standards.
  • Appropriately prioritize efforts between development work and production issues Advance systems reliability, scalability and maintainability to ensure long term success of our solutions.
  • Develop appropriate tests to ensure correctness and ongoing quality in alignment with best practices Provide maintenance, diagnosis, triage and troubleshooting of production issues, both proactively and in response to support requests.
  • Practice in off hours software releases and scheduled maintenance.

Team and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with Internet Services and other technology team members to deliver software solutions, field support requests, make application updates and manage release schedules.
  • Partner with business units to provide software solutions to solve complex problems and achieve business goals.
  • Communicate with technology teams, other business units and vendors in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Appropriately size engineering efforts to meet organizational goals.
  • Communicate to team and affected business units for planned and unplanned disruptions.
  • Provide support for vendor system communication and upgrades.
  • Document software solutions and processes to aid team understanding.
  • Communicate project status, estimates and risks to Internet Services Leadership.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to iterative development processes.

Continuous Learning

  • Pursue professional and technical skill development. Maintain working knowledge of software engineering trends.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technology trends.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • 2 - 3 years of Software Engineering experience is required.

Skills

  • Familiarity with software development tools and technologies.
  • Fluency in one or more major object-oriented programming languages (.NET, C# are required).
  • Fluency in one or more scripting languages.
  • Fluency in one or more query languages.
  • Fluency in version control systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to be on-call.
