Job description

A long-established, highly respected union mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead a large commercial HVAC service division. This is an outstanding opportunity for a proven leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has extensive experience managing technicians, client relationships, and large commercial mechanical service operations.

The ideal candidate will possess a Mechanical Engineering degree (preferred) and 15–20 years of progressive experience within the commercial HVAC/mechanical contracting industry. This individual must be a strong leader who can build accountability, mentor personnel, drive operational excellence, and deliver exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a large team of union HVAC service technicians and field personnel.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy commercial service department.
  • Manage approximately 80 commercial client accounts, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction and long-term client relationships.
  • Establish structure, accountability, and performance expectations throughout the department.
  • Coordinate manpower, scheduling, dispatching, and service execution to maximize efficiency and profitability.
  • Work closely with customers to resolve technical and operational issues while identifying additional service opportunities.
  • Monitor department performance, productivity, budgets, and profitability.
  • Develop and mentor supervisors, technicians, and support staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, union requirements, and company standards.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to drive continued growth and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
  • 15–20 years of commercial HVAC/mechanical service management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, controls, and service operations.
  • Proven experience managing large teams of union technicians.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to hold employees accountable while motivating and developing staff.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing multiple high-profile commercial accounts simultaneously.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills with the ability to interact professionally with owners, property managers, engineers, and contractors.
