Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute simulations capturing nonlinear behaviors such as large deformation, contact, and time-dependent effects.
  • Perform advanced nonlinear structural modeling using FEA tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, COMSOL) to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Leverage numerical, statistical, and scripting tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, DOE) to automate workflows, generate insights, and support cross-functional decision-making.
  • Develop and calibrate constitutive material models through lab testing to support accurate product simulations.
  • Define and implement robust V&V strategies, including experimental correlation and documentation aligned with ASME V&V40.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering (or related) with 2-6+ years of relevant experience, and ability to manage priorities effectively.

  • Extensive experience with nonlinear FEA tools applied to complex engineering problem-solving.

  • Proficiency in CAD modeling, preferably using SolidWorks.

  • Experience developing constitutive material models for plastics and/or elastomers.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience testing plastics and elastomers to calibrate advanced constitive material models.

  • Background in modeling and/or testing biological tissues, including familiarity with histological or imaging analysis techniques.

  • Experience implementing custom material models (e.g., UMAT/VUMAT) and supporting regulatory submissions involving simulation data (e.g., ASME V&V40).

  • Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, COMSOL), along with data analysis and optimization tools (HEEDS, Minitab).

  • Programming experience (Python, MATLAB) and hands-on use of testing equipment such as Instron and CellScale

Physical Demands: (if applicable)

This role requires physical activity associated with laboratory-based testing. This includes:

  • Handling polymers and gases in a lab environment.

  • Operating and setting up mechanical testing equipment (e.g., Instron, Tensile machine load cell changing).

  • Performing repetitive tasks such as sample preparation, mounting, and alignment.

  • Standing for extended periods during experimental procedures.

  • Lifting and transporting lab equipment or test fixtures (typically <25 lbs).
