General Notes
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) is the governing body for interscholastic activities and competitions for its member schools in Texas. It is the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world, offering academic, athletic and music extracurricular activities.
Purpose
Administer state level competitive speech competitions, workshops and conventions, and work collaboratively with the UIL Academic Director and Academic staff to support and promote UIL academic programs.
Responsibilities
- Administer the UIL speech, debate and congress competitions and other related functions as assigned in coordination with the UIL Academic Director.
- Plan and facilitate speech and academic contest administration workshops for multiple academic conferences, state conventions and other training opportunities.
- Produce speech contest handbooks and training materials for coaches, competitors and contest officials. Administer rule interpretations and provide information regarding speech related eligibility and policy questions.
- Serve as liaison for UIL committees with state and national associations. Monitor state and national trends in speech and debate competitions to evaluate existing and new speech events.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree. Extensive knowledge of UIL Constitution and Contest Rules for academic events and handbooks for UIL speech contests. A combination of five or more years teaching and/or education administration experience. Experience coordinating UIL academic programs and speech activities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and give attention to detail. Professional demeanor and demonstrated ability to work successfully with public school administrators and educators.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree. Ten or more years of experience as a speech teacher and/or campus/central office administrator in K-12 public schools. Demonstrated success as a UIL academic coordinator, speech coach, judge and contest official. First-hand experience administering or teaching UIL speech conventions and workshops. Service on UIL committees, experience in leadership with academic and competitive speech organizations, and hosting and presenting workshops at state and national conventions.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
