Job description

Pay: $43.10 per hour

Position Summary

Gerdau is seeking an experienced Millwright to perform a wide range of duties involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of mechanical equipment. The successful candidate will help ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Equipment Inspection & Maintenance

  • Receive instructions for scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work.
  • Inspect plant equipment for defects such as:
    • Misalignment
    • Wear
    • Insufficient lubrication
    • Other mechanical issues
  • Determine the most effective repair methods to minimize production interruptions.
  • Recommend equipment shutdowns when necessary to prevent damage.
  • Assess when temporary continued operation can occur without adverse effects.

Mechanical Repairs & Installation

  • Dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, maintain, assemble, and lubricate mechanical equipment.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Assemble and align:
    • Gears
    • Bearings
    • Shafts
  • Apply press, sliding, and running fits as required.
  • Perform all necessary rigging operations.
  • Operate machine tools, including:
    • Drill presses
    • Pipe-threading machines
    • Power saws
    • Other shop equipment

Crane & Hydraulic Systems Maintenance

  • Perform mechanical repairs on cranes.
  • Layout, install, maintain, and repair:
    • Pipelines
    • Fittings
    • Fixtures
    • Pressure systems
  • Repair leaks in:
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Air systems
    • Gas systems
    • Water systems
  • Replace leaking pipe sections.
  • Remove and install operating components, including:
    • Cylinders
    • Oil motors
    • Four-way valves
    • Check valves
  • Repair pumps, compressors, blowers, and related equipment.

Operational Support

  • Change, set up, and adjust equipment according to operating conditions.
  • Assist repair crews during emergency breakdowns.
  • Complete preventive maintenance reports and inspection checklists.
  • Perform water testing as required.
  • Document all maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Perform light welding associated with routine and emergency repairs.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the maintenance shop and job site.
  • Follow all established safety procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pass all required testing.

Experience Requirements

One of the following:

  • Minimum 1 year of millwright experience with a Millwright Journeyman Card, OR
  • Minimum 4 years of millwright experience without a Journeyman Card.

Quality Responsibilities

  • Lock out and tag out all equipment before performing repairs.

  • Comply with all Cardinal Safety Rules.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Cost & Production Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment to minimize plant downtime.
  • Support efficient and uninterrupted production operations.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Complete all required annual safety and environmental training, including fugitive dust training.
  • Assist with spill prevention, containment, response, and cleanup activities.
  • Support environmentally significant tasks such as:
    • Process pond water management
    • Spill prevention initiatives
    • KO61 dust (baghouse dust) preventive maintenance
    • Equipment calibration
