Job description

Gerdau is looking for an experienced Electrician to undertake a variety of tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Analyzes all types of circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings as required to install, repair, adjust, calibrate, construct, modify or service all types of electrical and electronic devices and systems, to include communication systems, various mill and production equipment, electronic computing and control systems, power and distribution control indicating devices, gauges, instrumentation, etc.
- Plans details of the work procedure to determine material or replacement needs and selects a logical approach to "troubleshooting" and repair problems. Answers trouble calls.
- Makes sketches of parts and layouts or wiring diagrams.
- Assembles, inspects, adjusts, repairs or replaces faulty parts and wiring on all types of electronic devices. This person will make mechanical and electrical repairs as required in connection with the servicing of electrical and electronic equipment.
- Inspects, dismantles, services, reassembles, tests and adjust equipment for safe and proper operation.
- Performs all other plant electrical maintenance as required.
- Starts up and shuts down various types of plant equipment.
- Inspects, adjusts and repairs all electric brakes including those used on cranes.
- Motor Controls - familiar and able to maintain, troubleshoot, and replace starters and VFD's or DC drives.
- Programmable logic controllers - read schematics and use PLC indication lights to determine which I/O is present. Measure 4-20mA(+-10V) transmitter loops to determine I/O status.
- Communication - install new communication systems. Make field repairs to existing systems. Run and hook up communication cabling (Profibus, ControlNet, RS232, R-Net, Dec-Net, Ether-Net, PLC remote drops, etc.).
- Scales - responsible for all plant weigh scale systems including installation and maintenance.
- Document all work performed on Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS.)
- Performs preventive maintenance on electrical, instrument, and controls devices and equipment.
- All other tasks assigned by management.
Secondary: - Performs soldering tasks as required in the performance of job responsibilities.
- Observes good housekeeping and safety on the jobsite, electrical rooms and shops.
- Utilization of EMM and GBS concepts.

TRAINING AND/OR BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 year electrical experience with Electrical Journeyman's Card or
- 4 years electrical experience without Journeyman's Card or
- Complete Gerdau Monroe Mill Apprenticeship Program

NEW/EXISTING EMPLOYEES MUST ALSO HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Pass all testing requirements
- Complete training checklist for this position
- Master Electrician card (not expired) qualifies the person for Master Electrician title/compensation

QUALITY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Machinery must be maintained to obtain the highest quality possible
- Employee will follow current Quality System policies and practices to strive for zero defects and continuous improvements.

SAFETY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must lock out all equipment prior to repairing it.
- Must perform all repairs following Gerdau Safety Policies.
- Observe and follow all departmental safety rules and regulations (inc. Cardinal Safety Rules).

COST/PRODUCTION RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- All equipment must be maintained to minimize plant down time.

ENVIRONMENTAL RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employee is expected to know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
- Responsible for and completing all required annual safety and environmental training (inc. fugitive dust).
- Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of material spills.
- Tasks which have significant environmental impacts are (i.e. process pond water, spill prevention, KO61 dust (bag house dust) PM's and calibration of equipment).
