Fraud Specialist
Department: Fraud Services
Role Type: Individual Contributor
Why This Role Matters
The Fraud Specialist helps protect members and the credit union from financial loss by identifying, investigating, and mitigating account and card fraud. This role strengthens member trust by responding quickly, communicating with empathy, and ensuring fraud prevention efforts align with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
What You'll Do
  • Monitor fraud detection systems and account activity to identify suspicious transactions and reduce potential losses.
  • Investigate fraud claims, affidavits, alerts, and member disputes across card, account, digital, and payment channels.
  • Resolve fraud-related issues by taking timely action on accounts, restrictions, claims, and member communications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, third-party vendors, card processors, law enforcement, and compliance partners to coordinate fraud mitigation efforts.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends and recommend actions that help strengthen prevention, monitoring, and response practices.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable Federal, State, NCUA, BSA, CIP, CDD, CTR, SAR, OFAC, and internal requirements.
  • Deliver respectful, empathetic service that supports member confidence during sensitive fraud-related situations.

Experience:
Required
  • A minimum of 3 years of customer service experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of financial services industry experience with preferred knowledge of account, debit card, or credit card servicing

Preferred
  • Fraud mitigation experience and training

Skills & Knowledge:
Required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly analytical and results-driven
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Regulation E and Regulation Z error resolution requirements
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a high production environment
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under fast-paced conditions
  • Computer and Technical aptitude in various systems, specifically Microsoft (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Preferred experience with Symitar, Synapsys, Client Central, Lumin, Tranzact, Pindrop, and Jack Henry and Associates applications
  • Service-oriented
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work with internal and external constituents and achieve a positive outcome

Preferred

Education:
Required
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred
  • BS/BA college degree in applied sciences, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or Criminal Justice is highly desired

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:30 pm
Compensation Details:
Paygrade: 1CA
The expected pay range for this position is $23.77 to $25.73 per hour.

Job Location: This position is onsite based in San Antonio, TX.
