The Opportunity


RETTEW is seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer and licensed Professional Engineer to lead our Transportation team in Region 1.


This is an opportunity for an accomplished transportation professional who is ready to expand their impact beyond individual project delivery. As Transportation Engineering Team Lead, you will develop engineers and Project Managers, strengthen project and financial performance, balance team resources, build lasting client relationships, and help grow RETTEW's Transportation practice.


You'll remain connected to meaningful transportation projects and key clients while collaborating with Transportation leaders across RETTEW to share expertise, align resources, and strengthen our capabilities across regions.


What You'll Do


As Transportation Engineering Team Lead, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop transportation engineers, designers, and Project Managers, supporting professional growth, accountability, and strong team performance.
  • Partner with the Regional Director to establish team priorities, monitor performance, and support regional and practice objectives.
  • Provide leadership and technical oversight for transportation projects, helping teams achieve quality, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Serve as a resource to Project Managers and technical staff for project strategy, technical challenges, client engagement, and delivery decisions.
  • Coordinate team workload, staffing, and resource allocation while collaborating with Transportation Team Leads and professionals across RETTEW offices.
  • Monitor team and project financial performance, forecasting, workload, and established operational metrics; work with Project Managers to address performance concerns and opportunities.
  • Maintain and strengthen client and agency relationships while identifying opportunities to expand RETTEW's services.
  • Partner with RETTEW's Business Development resources on proposals, pursuits, client engagement, cross-selling, and growth initiatives.
  • Contribute technical and project-management expertise on complex or high-profile transportation projects when appropriate.
  • Promote consistent technical standards, quality, and effective project delivery across the Transportation practice.
  • Foster a team culture built around ownership, collaboration, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.


What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or active PE licensure in another state with eligibility to obtain Pennsylvania licensure through reciprocity.
  • Significant professional experience in transportation engineering, including demonstrated project-management responsibility.
  • Strong technical knowledge of transportation engineering and project delivery, including experience with roadway, traffic, and/or transportation-agency projects.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, supervising, or developing engineers, designers, Project Managers, or other technical professionals.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, and competing priorities.
  • Ability to plan workload and coordinate resources across multiple projects and team members.
  • Experience building and maintaining strong client and agency relationships.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, technical professionals, Project Managers, and organizational leadership.
  • Ability and interest in supporting business development and client growth in partnership with RETTEW's Business Development resources.

Preferred

  • Experience delivering projects for PennDOT or comparable state transportation agencies.
  • Experience leading complex or multidisciplinary transportation projects.
  • Experience working collaboratively across multiple offices, teams, or regions.
  • Demonstrated success expanding existing client relationships or identifying new project opportunities.
  • Experience with team-level financial tracking, forecasting, workload planning, or operational performance metrics.
  • Experience developing Project Managers or emerging leaders.
  • Active involvement in transportation-related professional organizations such as ASHE or ITE.
