Job description

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Field Engineer with direct IDOT field experience to support the execution and oversight of transportation infrastructure projects. This role will be primarily field-based and requires a strong understanding of IDOT standards, specifications, and construction management procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and document construction activities to ensure compliance with IDOT specifications and plans.

  • Conduct field inspections, prepare daily reports, and maintain project documentation.

  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and IDOT personnel to resolve field issues.

  • Review and interpret engineering plans and shop drawings.

  • Assist in quantity calculations, pay estimates, and change orders.

  • Maintain accurate field records and uphold quality control and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (preferred, not required with extensive experience).

  • Minimum 1–3 years of field engineering experience, with at least 2 years on IDOT projects.

  • Strong knowledge of IDOT specifications, manuals, and construction documentation practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and field data collection tools.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites within Illinois.

Preferred Certifications

  • IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities

  • IDOT PCC and HMA Level I/II

  • OSHA 10/30-Hour Construction Safety
