The Director of Transportation - Fleet & Freight Payment North America will analyze external logistics and transportation networks to reduce overall transportation costs for operations in North America. They will develop process for improvement and integration of internal supply chain as it relates to logistics and transportation work processes as well as coordinate the implementation of logistics and transportation strategies/systems along with the Sr. Director of Transportation and their team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Monitor and manage Regional Logistics Managers (RLMs) and their specific job functions.
  • Develop knowledge of the current TMS systems, as well as new systems that get rolled out, and be able to develop training strategies to train region users on system functionality and to ensure effective use of these tools for daily transportation planning.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of supply chain models for improvements of logistics and transportation network throughout the region.
  • Work with RLMs to identify opportunity lanes for improved service, capacity and/or rates with external carriers.
  • Work with RLMs to improve fleet utilization by driving cost of private fleet usage down through effective order planning, driver efficiency, and overall performance management.
  • Work with Customer Service, MPUs and Sales teams on how to maximize gross margin through effective transportation spend management through process and system execution.
  • Assist in development of regional metric data on internal /external transportation costs.
  • Assist in coordinating expense control programs for logistics and transportation leveraging TMS systems and expense management tools.
  • Assist corporate Transportation team in negotiating freight rates as needed.
  • Work with RLMs and Corporate Fleet Mgr. to identify and optimize low utilization fleet assets in local branches.
  • Work with RLMs to improve DOT compliance.
  • Travel up to 35%.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • 5-7 years of experience in operations.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Leadership experience in large organizations.
  • Proficient using PC based packages such as Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • In-depth knowledge of the chemical distribution industry and facility operation.
  • Working knowledge of governmental requirements related to chemical industry; i.e. OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.
  • Familiar with local, state and federal laws as they apply to our operations.
  • Strong analytical skills and presentation/recommendation skills to review supply chain practices and recommend improvements.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle diverse and significant workload.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels within the organization. Must be able to use tact, understanding and initiative.
  • Ability to recommend strategies and to translate strategies into tactics.
  • Complete knowledge distribution systems, and familiarity with company accounting policies.
  • Good analytical skills and problem-solving ability based on qualitative analysis and real-world experience.
  • Ability to translate long term objectives into implementation plans
