CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Various CCCHC Clinics and Community Sites

JOB SUMMARY: The Transportation Assistant is responsible for providing safe, professional, courteous, and timely non-emergency transportation for patients traveling to medical appointments, community events, and other designated locations in support of Central City Community Health Center's clinical operations and mobile health programs. This position safely operates company vehicles, including Medical and Dental Mobile Units up to approximately 34 feet in length, assists patients with boarding and mobility needs, transports medical equipment, supplies, and laboratory specimens, performs routine vehicle inspections, and provides patient-centered customer service while maintaining compliance with all traffic laws, HIPAA requirements, organizational policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Clinic Manager and Lead

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide safe, professional, and compassionate non-emergency transportation for patients to and from medical appointments, community events, and other designated locations.
  • Safely operate company vehicles, including Medical and Dental Mobile Units up to approximately 34 feet in length.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist ambulatory and wheelchair patients with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility devices and seat belts.
  • Transport medical equipment, supplies, laboratory specimens, outreach materials, and other organizational assets as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, mileage logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
  • Support community outreach events, health fairs, and mobile clinic operations.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and patient-centered customer service while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned vehicles and mobile units.
  • Participate in required trainings and safety meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of experience in patient transportation, healthcare, transportation services, customer service, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
  • Current and valid California Driver License with an acceptable driving record meeting organizational insurance requirements.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification required or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience operating Medical and Dental Mobile Units or similar commercial passenger vehicles preferred.
  • Experience serving elderly, disabled, or medically underserved populations preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to assist patients with mobility and work indoors and outdoors.
