POSITION SUMMARY
The Transportation Driver/Transportation Aide is responsible for safely transporting individuals served to and from day programs, medical appointments, community activities, and other approved destinations in accordance with DBHDD Community Service Standards, Medicaid NOW/COMP Waiver requirements, and A New Well, Inc. policies and procedures.
This position ensures the health, safety, supervision, dignity, and rights of individuals served during all transportation activities while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with all transportation regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Transportation Duties

  • Safely transport individuals served to assigned destinations.
  • Operate agency vehicles in compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Ensure all individuals are properly secured using seat belts and wheelchair restraints when applicable.
  • Conduct passenger counts before departure, during transport transitions, and upon arrival.
  • Assist individuals entering and exiting vehicles safely.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of individuals during transport.
  • Follow approved transportation schedules and routes.
  • Ensure individuals are never left unattended in vehicles.
Vehicle Safety & Maintenance
  • Complete daily vehicle inspections prior to transporting individuals.
  • Report vehicle maintenance concerns immediately.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, sanitary, and safe.
  • Verify vehicles contain:
    • First aid kits
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Emergency contact information
    • Required insurance documentation
  • Maintain fuel levels and vehicle readiness.
Documentation Responsibilities
  • Complete Transportation Attendance Logs accurately and timely.
  • Document departure and arrival times.
  • Complete mileage and vehicle usage logs if required.
  • Report incidents, accidents, injuries, or safety concerns immediately.
  • Complete incident reports according to agency policy.
Emergency & Safety Responsibilities
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies during transport.
  • Follow emergency evacuation procedures when necessary.
  • Contact emergency services and agency management when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individuals served.
  • Report allegations or suspicions of abuse, neglect, or exploitation immediately.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
  • Treat individuals served with dignity, respect, and compassion.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Maintain current certifications and licensure requirements.
  • Comply with DBHDD Community Service Standards and agency policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License appropriate for vehicle operated.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks.
  • Ability to pass drug screening if required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred or required within designated timeframe.
  • Ability to safely assist individuals with mobility needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employee must be able to:

  • Respond quickly during emergencies
