Job Description
The position of a Community Development Assistant is a part-time student employment opportunity at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the Department of Housing and Residence Life. A Community Development Assistant (CDA) is a student staff member who lives within the residence hall they are employed in. CDAs promote hall staff success through creativity, design, and collaboration in the residence halls ranging from 250-325 residents. They are responsible for attending training, designing and creating materials for hall staff, having educational conversations, partnering with hall professional staff to promote student development, and completing other administrative tasks. This position is part-time employment in conjunction with the employee's full-time academic schedule. The accumulated duties of this position require the employee to work twenty (20) hours per week during each academic semester.
Collaborate with hall staff in developing materials, strategies, and supporting social and hall programs, as specified by the Residence Hall Director (RHD)
Meet regularly with Program Board members to provide ongoing training, discuss upcoming events, provide direction and guidance, and evaluate activities.
Serve as a Responsible Employee, as defined by Title IX and UWSP Policy 14.2, to report thorough and complete information about sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and other gender-based discrimination.
Must get approval from RHD before committing to any major extracurricular activities, including officer positions and intercollegiate athletics. Some athletic and extracurricular program schedules work better than others while being a staff member. We try our best to accommodate individuals; however, your staff position is expected to be the priority.
Must fulfill individual hall requirements, including programming needs, meetings, and ongoing training set by the RHD.
After two years in a community, Housing and Residence Life requires Community Development Assistant to move to a new community style, regardless of supervisor. This ensures that all CDAs continue to grow in their roles and will have more opportunities for professional development. This is applicable for positions as a Resident Assistant and Community Development Assistant in either/both roles.
Return to your residence hall prior to the spring semester (Approx. 5 days before semester begins) to participate in staff training programs, assist in the orientation of students to the residence hall, and be on-campus the weekend when hall opens.
