About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR):
The Indiana Department of Revenue team is comprised of over 700 staff that are located in 13 locations across the state of Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and a variety of tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws. DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue. Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws in a fair, secure, and efficient manner.
Role Overview:
The Training and Staff Development Specialist works with management and subject matter experts to develop topics and content. You will also review and update existing content annually to ensure compliance with legislative updates, policies, and procedures. Training modules will be delivered in person and virtually through computer-based training.
Salary:

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Design customized training programs, incorporating adult learning principles and innovative instructional design methodologies.
  • Create engaging and interactive training materials, including presentations, e-learning modules, videos, and hands-on activities.
  • Facilitate training sessions using a variety of instructional techniques to accommodate different learning styles and preferences.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in training and development, and integrate them into training strategies.
  • Collaborate with department heads and HR to assess training needs, identify skill gaps, and develop targeted training solutions.
  • Conduct thorough training needs analyses to determine the most effective training methods, including in-person, virtual, and blended learning approaches.
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics, making necessary adjustments to optimize impact.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of training content.
  • Coordinate training schedules, venues, and logistics, ensuring smooth execution of training events.
  • Provide ongoing support and resources to employees to reinforce learning and skill application.
  • Assist in the development of career development plans and pathways, helping employees map out their growth within the organization.
  • Maintain training records and prepare reports on training activities, attendance, and outcomes.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

  • Proficiency in developing and delivering a variety of training methods, including e-learning, workshops, webinars, and on-the-job training.
  • Extensive communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to assess training needs, gather feedback, and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficient in using learning management systems (LMS) and other training technology.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

A degree is not required. However, at least 6 years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
Completion of relevant education degree(s) and certifications may substitute for equivalent years of experience.
