These managers also monitor the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as needed, often working closely with department heads and executives to align training initiatives with business goals.

What does a training and development manager do?

As a training and development manager, your primary responsibilities are to cultivate training programs for the employees at your company and oversee the training and development staff in the HR department. Your job duties include identifying the training needs of employees, researching existing training programs and coordinating with those vendors, aligning training materials and resources with your company’s business goals, and keeping the cost of training programs within budget spending limits. • Builds Relationships – Naturally connects with people and understands that great sales start with genuinely understanding an athlete's goals.
  • Takes Ownership – Doesn't wait to be told what needs to be done and takes pride in hitting goals.
  • Leads by Example – Brings energy, positivity, and accountability to the team every day.
  • Thrives on Competition – Motivated by goals, numbers, and winning as a team.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and follow up with inbound leads through phone, text, email, and in-person communication
  • Conduct facility tours and consultations with prospective athletes
  • Convert leads into new memberships and consistently work toward sales goals
  • Build relationships with prospective and current members to create a world-class D1 experience
  • Support the General Manager in managing the sales process and holding the team accountable to key sales metrics
  • Track leads, appointments, conversions, and other sales KPIs
  • Re-engage past leads and former members to generate additional opportunities
  • Assist with member check-ins, memberships, payments, and POS operations
  • Help train and coach team members on sales conversations and follow-up
  • Support events, marketing initiatives, and community outreach
  • Maintain a strong presence on the floor and represent D1 professionally at all times
  • Step in to support the General Manager and broader team wherever needed
Qualifications
  • Previous sales experience strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to sell, build relationships, and consistently work toward goals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable making phone calls, following up with leads, and asking for the sale
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple leads and conversations at once
  • High energy, competitive, coachable, and motivated to improve
  • Passion for fitness, athletics, and helping people achieve their goals
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends as needed
  • Previous gym, fitness, hospitality, or retail experience is a plus
What You Can Expect at D1
  • A fun, high-energy environment where winning is celebrated

  • The opportunity to grow your sales and leadership skills
  • A team that genuinely cares about its athletes and community
  • Clear expectations, measurable goals, and accountability
  • The opportunity to make a real impact on people's lives
  • A path to grow within D1 Training as the business continues to expand
