Location: Longmore House, Edinburgh 
Working Hours:  35 hours per week 
Interviews: To be held week Commencing 27 July and 3 August 2026

Thank you for your interest in the post of Building Information Modelling Technologist Trainee with Historic Environment Scotland (HES). This post will be primarily based at Longmore House, Edinburgh. This is a 12-month fixed term position. The contract will commence from October 2026.

Building information modelling (BIM) involves the generation and management of digital representations of buildings or other physical assets which also include information about the physical and functional characteristics of the building or object.

Key Responsibilities of this role

Key skills which this post will focus on are: 

  • 3D Parametric Modelling (For Architecture).

  • Information Management to ISO19650 Standards.

  • Collaboration and Communication.

  • Scheduling Techniques.

  • Presentation Skills.

  • Public Speaking (if applicable).

  • Research and Teaching (if applicable).

You will work closely with Historic Environment Scotland's Business Information Modelling, National Investments Projects and Aset Management Compliance teams. Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Being an active member of the Historic Environment Scotland's Business Information Modelling, National Investments Projects and Aset Management Compliance teams in the office and in the field.
  • Creating a professional portfolio of work on live projects at HES, whilst building a professional network and feeding into the development Business Information Modelling, National Investments Projects and Aset Management Compliance Workstreams.
  • Contributing to HES Digital and Business Information Modelling outreach events.
    • Run 1 - 2 sessions at the monthly Business Information Modelling workshop, on topic of your choice.
    • Participate in external Business Information Modelling groups such as BIM4Heritage, SFT (Scottish Futures Trust).
    • Attend any BIM conferences within Scotland.
  • Assisting with the preparation of data for outreach and Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operations projects with HES colleagues and outside of the organisation.
  • Preparing datasets using Business Information Modelling software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Twinmotion, Sketchup etc.) as and when required.
  • Take ownership of Business Information Modelling projects covering modelling, information management, and document production, and environment setup and management.

  •  A qualification in Architectural Technology, Building Conservation, Surveying, Computer Aided Design or a related discipline would be advantageous. SCQF Level 7 or above in a relevant discipline.

    • 3D Parametric Modelling

    • Information Management

    • 3D reconstruction

    • Digital Heritage 

  •  Computer literacy
  •  An interest in Heritage Conservation
