Fire Sprinkler Designer

Location: Minneapolis-St. Paul Area, MN (On-site / Hybrid options available)

Position Type: Full-time

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-driven Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our Minneapolis team. In this role, you will play a critical part in our life-safety projects by planning, modeling, and optimizing automatic fire sprinkler systems. The ideal candidate brings a high level of proficiency in AutoSPRINK and a solid grasp of local and national fire protection codes.

Key Responsibilities

  • 3D System Design: Create comprehensive, accurate 3D fire sprinkler layouts using AutoSPRINK software, transitioning away from traditional flat 2D lines to highly efficient, build-ready models.

  • Hydraulic Calculations: Perform fast and accurate hydraulic calculations right within the AutoSPRINK environment to ensure code compliance and optimal system performance.

  • BIM Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with architects, mechanical engineers, and other trades using Navisworks or Revit to identify and resolve spatial clashes before fabrication.

  • Stocklisting & Materials: Generate complete, precise material stock lists and fabrication drawings directly from the 3D design model to minimize field modifications.

  • Surveys & Permitting: Conduct on-site field surveys, evaluate structural constraints, and prepare detailed drawing submittals to successfully obtain building permits from local authorities.

  • Code Alignment: Ensure all designs align rigorously with NFPA standards (NFPA 13, 14, 20, etc.) as well as Minnesota State Building and Fire Codes.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2–5 years of dedicated experience in fire sprinkler system layout and design.

  • Software Mastery: Strong proficiency and hands-on experience with AutoSPRINK is required. Exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks is highly valued.

  • NICET Certification: NICET Level II or higher in Water-Based Systems Layout is strongly preferred (or an active willingness to test and obtain it shortly after hire).

  • Technical Aptitude: Mechanically and mathematically inclined with an acute attention to spatial detail.

  • Local Standards: Familiarity with Upper Midwest weather-related design considerations (e.g., proper slope for dry systems, freeze protection) is a plus.
