Job description

Job Description
Find your purpose as a Fire Protection Engineering Technician at CentraCare. As the Fire Protection Engineering Technician you will manage operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems including but not limited to automatic alarm systems, automatic sprinkler systems, clean agent release systems, kitchen hood suppression systems, handheld extinguishers, etc. Ensures that the organization maintains compliance with NFPA, Joint Commission, State of MN, and all other City or applicable codes. Implements and abides by Customer Service Standards.
Schedule:
  • Full-time 80 hours every 2 weeks
  • Mon-Fri 7a-3:30p

Pay and Benefits:
  • This is a union position paying $42.13 per hour.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED; Graduate of a fire protection systems program preferred.
  • Technical experience in fire protection systems and associated code requirements.
  • Fire Protection Engineering Technology Inspections and Testing of Water Based Systems Level 3 or equivalent required.
  • Fire Protection Engineering Technology Fire Alarm System Level 2 or equivalent required.
  • Fire Sprinkler Training and Certificate Program and Fire Protection Technology Certificate from an accredited institution required.
  • A valid Minnesota driver's license and a driving record in good standing are required.

Core Functions:
  • Perform and/or coordinate all required inspections, testing and preventative maintenance for fire protection systems. Provide readily available code compliant documentation for regulatory oversight review and in the facility work order system.
  • Manage contracts with licensed sources for fire protection systems installation, maintenance, testing and repair for SCH facilities. Verify work completed and documentation provided meets all applicable codes.
  • Coordinate with facility development on all remodeling and new construction projects for SCH facilities, to verify proposed fire protections systems meet applicable codes and CentraCare standards. At project completion review installed systems to verify code compliance and verify that all required documentation has been provided.
  • Participate in developing facility operational procedures for fire alarm, fire drill, evacuation and other areas as requested.
  • Perform and/or coordinate all required training for SCH facilities personnel related to fire protection systems and codes.
  • Maintain knowledge of current codes and updates for NFPA, Joint Commission, State of MN, City of St Cloud and other applicable jurisdictions. Implements changes to policies/ procedures, training, etc. as required by code changes.
  • Recommend and/or purchase all required test and safety equipment utilized for inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems.
  • Utilize the Work Order System for asset management, scheduling and completion tracking for all required duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Due to 24/7 operations, position may include mandatory participation in various schedules to include on call, day, evening, night, and/or weekend rotations or coverage.
