Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive primary and episodic healthcare to college students within a campus health center setting. This role emphasizes holistic, developmentally informed care for young adults and collaboration with counseling, wellness, and campus partners to support student success, retention, and well-being.

The NP practices in accordance with state scope-of-practice regulations and evidence-based standards for college health, including guidance from the American College Health Association (ACHA).


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide primary care services to a diverse college student population, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Conduct health histories, physical exams, and preventive health screenings.
  • Diagnose and manage common illnesses and injuries (e.g., respiratory illness, infections, minor injuries, dermatologic concerns).
  • Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state licensure.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and diagnostic studies.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with state and institutional immunization requirements, and administer immunizations (as applicable).
  • Provide health education and counseling on nutrition, sleep, substance use, stress, and wellness.

Care Coordination & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with counseling services, disability/accessibility services, athletics, residence life, and other campus partners to support student well-being (with appropriate consent).
  • Refer students to specialists or community providers when indicated.
  • Participate in case consultation and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist in developing care plans for students with complex medical or mental health needs.

Health Promotion & Prevention

  • Support campus health promotion initiatives and outreach events.
  • Contribute to public health efforts such as vaccination campaigns and other wellness programming.
  • Provide consultation for campus health concerns and emerging student needs.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential electronic health records.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Review and act upon student health history and immunization records.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation processes as applicable.

Administrative & Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and campus committees as appropriate.
  • Assist with development of clinical protocols and health center policies.
  • Assist with regular updates to the department's policy and procedure manual for health services.
  • Maintain licensure, certification, and continuing education requirements.
  • Support training and supervision of student workers, interns, or graduate trainees as appropriate.
The approved rate of pay is: $63.00/hr - $66.00/hr

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • Must hold an active New York State Nurse Practitioner license and practice in accordance with Section 6902(3)(b) of the New York Education Law.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of clinical experience in primary care, family medicine, urgent care, adolescent/young adult health, or college health (may consider strong new graduates).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and emerging adults.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in college health, adolescent medicine, family practice, or community health.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Interest in health promotion, mental health integration, and preventive care.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary or educational settings.

Work Schedule

  • Primarily Monday - Friday daytime hours, with an expectation of one evening clinic per week to support student access and campus needs.
  • Special event coverage as needed.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced outpatient college health center.
  • Frequent interaction with students, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Requires ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in a campus environment.
