What are Trainee FIFO positions?

Trainee FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) positions are entry-level roles in industries like mining, construction, or oil and gas, where employees travel to remote sites for work and stay there for a set period before returning home. These jobs are designed for individuals new to FIFO work or the industry, offering on-the-job training and guidance. Trainees learn essential skills while adapting to the FIFO lifestyle, which involves long shifts, rostered work periods, and living at a camp or site accommodation. The goal is to prepare trainees for more specialized or advanced roles within the industry.

Can Americans get FIFO jobs?

Trainee FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) jobs are typically available to candidates from countries where the job is based, often requiring relevant work visas or permits. Americans can qualify for FIFO roles if they meet the employer's visa requirements and have the necessary skills and certifications, such as safety training and industry-specific qualifications. Availability depends on the employer and local immigration policies.

Can you get into FIFO with no experience?

Trainee FIFO roles typically do not require prior experience, as they often include on-the-job training and focus on safety and basic skills. However, having a high school diploma, physical fitness, and a willingness to learn can improve your chances of being hired for such entry-level positions.

What are some common challenges faced by Trainee FIFO workers and how can they be managed?

Trainee FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) workers often face challenges such as adjusting to remote work environments, adapting to long shifts, and managing extended periods away from home and family. Building strong communication skills, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and participating in onsite support programs can help mitigate these challenges. Many companies provide comprehensive onboarding, mental health resources, and opportunities to connect with fellow workers, making it easier for new trainees to acclimate and succeed in their roles.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

A Trainee FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) worker in industries like mining or oil and gas can earn around $4,000 per week, especially with overtime and experience. These roles often require physical stamina, safety training, and sometimes certifications but typically do not require a formal degree. High-paying FIFO jobs depend on industry demand, location, and shift schedules.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Trainee FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Trainee FIFO worker, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic mechanical aptitude, and the physical fitness required for remote site work. Familiarity with safety protocols, site-specific machinery, and certifications such as White Card or First Aid are often necessary. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and resilience help individuals manage extended shifts and the challenges of remote environments. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure safety, productivity, and a positive contribution to demanding FIFO operations.

Is it hard to get hired by FIFO?

Getting hired as a FIFO trainee can be competitive due to the demand for skilled workers in remote mining or industrial environments. Candidates often need relevant certifications, physical fitness, and the ability to work long shifts on a rotational schedule. Strong safety awareness and practical skills can improve chances of employment in FIFO roles.

Job description

Management Trainee (TAWA RISE Program) — 99 Ranch Market

Location: 925 Blossom Hill Rd #1384, San Jose, CA 95123 (rotational across stores, HQ, and logistics within ~50 miles)

Job Type: Full-Time — hourly during training, transitioning to a salaried (exempt) management role on completion

Pay: $20–$28/hour during the training period, based on experience

Schedule: 40–45 hours/week, 6 days/week during training; weekend and holiday availability required

About the Role

The TAWA RISE Management Trainee Program is a 12–18 month leadership track built to turn you into a manager at one of the largest Asian supermarket chains in the country. You'll rotate through store operations, headquarters, logistics, merchandising, and marketing — learning how the business actually runs from the floor up. When you finish, you step into a management role matched to your strengths and the company's needs.

A Note on the Program

This is a hands-on, fast-paced program, not a desk job. Expect a 6-day week during training, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and real travel — you'll move between locations within about a 50-mile radius and should be open to relocation for rotational assignments or your permanent placement. The people who thrive here genuinely want a long-term retail-leadership career and are willing to put in the rotations to get there. If that's you, this is a rare chance to be developed into a leader from day one.

What You'll Do

  • Rotate through store operations, HQ, logistics, merchandising, and marketing to learn the full business
  • Apply company SOPs, product knowledge, and operational standards on the sales floor every day
  • Support daily store and department operations to hit performance and sales targets
  • Help plan and run promotions, and maintain product quality, FIFO inventory control, and merchandising standards
  • Build leadership skills through supervising staff, scheduling, and supporting your team
  • Train in Human Capital Management — coaching, performance evaluation, and team development
  • Keep the work environment safe, clean, and compliant, and complete program assessments along the way

Required

  • Bilingual: fluent in English plus Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) or Spanish
  • Associate degree or equivalent hands-on work experience
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience
  • Willingness to relocate and travel between locations within a ~50-mile radius during training
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred

  • Prior retail, grocery, or management experience
  • Experience with retail systems or SAP
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • $20–$28/hour during training, then a salaried (exempt) management role on program completion
  • Medical, vision, dental, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Employee discount and a long-term service award
  • A clear path into Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Department Manager (Grocery, Produce, Meat, Seafood, Cashier, and more), or corporate roles in merchandising and logistics
