Job description

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Librarian Supervisor, purchases materials for the library collection, catalogs materials, and maintains the collection through inventory and weeding. With emphasis on teamwork, this position seeks input and provides information to various divisions within the department, as determined by the supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes original and copy cataloging for a range of material types and for a range of ages 
  • Oversees the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of metadata across multiple discovery platforms and library systems including the use of applicable tools for manipulating data
  • Collaborates with the other library divisions to determine acquisition needs 
  • Partners with other library divisions on the cataloging, weeding, inventory, and maintenance of the library collection
  • Maintains records and holdings in local automated system; works with library team on software upgrades and maintenance of local automated system
  • Provides feedback and guidance on questions or issues with the ILS or library and archives holdings 
  • Pursues professional engagement for self through projects, publications, and attendance and participation in state and national conferences and meetings to connect best practices and emergent issues in library service development
  • Participates in library committees, working groups, and projects
  • Stays up to date on new release materials for a variety of ages and interests
  • Purchases library materials in accordance with the Library Collection Development policy
  • Follows policy, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a library 

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of cataloging experience
  • Proficiency with MARC/RDA languages, Worldcat, and OCLC 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
