POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Head of Childrenโ€™s Services, this position provides welcoming and inclusive library service to children (birth to age 12) and their caregivers. The role supports literacy and learning through public service, programming, collection development, outreach, and collaboration.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

ยท Provide readersโ€™ advisory, reference services, and technology assistance to children, families, and other Library patrons

ยท Plan, develop, and present engaging storytimes, programs, and group visits for children and families

ยท Support early literacy initiatives, including Summer of Stories, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, and other Library programs and activities

ยท Develop, maintain, and evaluate assigned Childrenโ€™s collections

ยท Build and maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, and local partners through outreach and community engagement

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

ยท Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution, or currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLIS program with expected degree completion within one year.

ยท One year of experience working with children ages birth to twelve

ยท One year of experience effectively serving diverse populations and providing customer service in a public-facing environment

ยท One year professional or related experience planning and delivering presentations, leading programs, providing group instruction

and communicating effectively in public-facing settings

ยท Demonstrated knowledge of current childrenโ€™s literature, trends, and youth reading interests, with the ability to recommend age-appropriate materials, developed through coursework or one year of professional or related experience

ยท One year of experience effectively using a variety of technologies, software systems, digital tools, and databases.

ยท One year of experience managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and timely completion of assigned work

ยท One year of experience working independently, following established procedures, exercising sound judgment, and appropriately resolve routine operational or service


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ยท One year or more of experience working in a public library environment

ยท One year or more of experience in collection development, including selecting, evaluating, and maintaining Library materials

ยท One year or more of experience planning and facilitating childrenโ€™s programs, storytimes, or other youth-focused educational activities

ยท Knowledge of early literacy development principles and instructional practices, including familiarity with Every Child Ready to Read 2.0 (ECCR 2.0)

ยท Bilingual or multilingual communication skills relevant to the community served, including Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, or Telugu

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Medium work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
