Job description

THE POSITION As an Accounting Associate with the Bureau of Accounting and Financial Management, you will help review financial activity that affects agencies across the Commonwealth. This position gives you hands-on experience with accounting systems, financial reports, and important state programs. You will build confidence as you learn to analyze data and support strong financial practices.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an Accounting Associate, you will help review financial information, support federal reporting, and ensure agencies follow accounting rules and guidelines. This role supports the accuracy of statewide financial activity while building important accounting knowledge.

As an Accounting Associate, you will perform the following duties: Financial Support: Assist in reviewing agency accounting activity and supporting daily financial operations Report Assistance: Help prepare financial statements and analyze information used for program decisions Data Evaluation: Review financial outcomes and communicate results to business partners Grant Management: Support accounting processes for assigned grants and prepare required federal reports Account Review: Prepare reconciliations and review accounting adjustments for accuracy and documentation Team Coordination: Work with accountants and auditors to solve issues and support business processes After completing at least one year of training and the probationary period as an Accounting Associate, you may qualify for promotion to an Executive Accounting Specialist. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, occasional in-office days may be required.

In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years as an Accounting Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or Two years as a Fiscal Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or A bachelor's degree including 21 credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
