Job description

A technology-focused firm specializing in high-performance suspension systems and components, primarily serving the motorsports and automotive industries. The company is known for engineering advanced shock absorbers and custom solutions designed to enhance vehicle handling, durability, and overall ride performance.
Position Summary
The Total Quality Manager (TQM) leads the Quality and Testing functions for the companies elastomer manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with AS9100 and customer-specific aerospace requirements. This role owns the Quality Management System (QMS), drives product qualification and validation, and ensures that inspection, testing, and compliance activities support production flow and on-time delivery.
The TQM is accountable for product conformity, rapid resolution of quality issues, and the execution of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs. This position plays a critical role in balancing compliance with operational efficiency while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing and quality processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Department Leadership
* Lead daily execution of Quality and Testing activities in support of production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
* Establish priorities to ensure inspection, testing, and release activities do not constrain throughput.
* Drive accountability for timely disposition and accurate inspection.
2. Quality Management System (QMS)
* Own and maintain the AS9100-certified QMS aligned to shop floor practices.
* Ensure work instructions reflect elastomer processes (mixing, molding, curing, finishing).
* Maintain strict document and revision control for traceability.
3. Auditing & Compliance
* Lead internal audits focused on process effectiveness.
* Prepare and lead AS9100 audits.
* Interface with customer audits.
* Oversee supplier quality and approvals.
4. Inspection & Testing
* Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections.
* Manage elastomer-specific testing and qualifications.
* Ensure First Article Inspections (FAIs) are completed on schedule.
5. Calibration Management
* Maintain calibration system for all measurement equipment.
* Ensure gage capability and compliance.
* Prevent production disruptions due to calibration issues.
6. Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)
* Lead EHS compliance including chemical handling and waste management.
* Ensure RCRA compliance.
* Drive safety initiatives and chair safety team.
7. Material & Quality Issue Management
* Lead MRB activities and material disposition.
* Drive containment and resolution of quality issues.
* Manage CARs and RMAs.
8. Continuous Improvement & Metrics
* Analyze data to reduce scrap and improve yield.
* Lead initiatives to improve First Pass Yield and reduce COPQ.
* Track KPIs: First Pass Yield, Scrap, Rework, On-Time Delivery, RMAs.
9. Team Development
* Develop a hands-on quality team.
* Train on elastomer inspection and testing.
* Promote quality ownership on the shop floor.
Salary range: $130,000 - $140,000
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor"s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Must have 7-10+ years of quality leadership experience in manufacturing; aerospace preferred.
* Experience with elastomer or polymer manufacturing.
* Proven experience managing QMS, audits, MRB, and corrective actions.
* Experience with FAI and qualification processes.
* ASQ certifications (CQE, CQM) preferred.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace requirements.
* Understanding of elastomer processes and material behavior.
* Ability to balance compliance with production flow.
* Root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys).
* Data-driven decision making.
* Hands-on leadership and accountability.
* Audit management experience.
* ERP/MRP system proficiency.
* Continuous improvement focus.
