Job description

SMS Mill Services, LLC is a leader in the steel mill services industry prioritizing recycling and environmental/worker' safety and handling all operations with integrity. We partner with our customers to design custom, cost-effective solutions, which focus on adding value and achieving goals for the operation and the environment. Our range of services includes, but is not limited scrap yard management, finished or semi-finished product services, melt shop services, logistics/transportation support, and slag processing.
SMS is seeking a safety-focused Burner at our site located in Jackson, TN on JSW Steel Mill. This a 24/7 operation with multiple shifts.
Job Duties:
Examine and cut metal of various sizes down to specified dimensions using an oxygen/gas torch, inspect equipment, follow company safety and environmental standards. Perform inspections of the equipment to ensure it is in proper working order prior to operating (i.e., gas and oxygen regulators, hoses and hand torch). Clean, store, and maintain assigned PPE and equipment, assist with yard/facility cleanup and maintenance.
Other skills:
Able to work in a physically demanding environment and all types of weather; rain, snow, cold and heat. Capable of being self-directed (i.e. once scrap processing in a specific area has been completed, must be able to unhook hand torch from gas and oxygen lines, identify the next area that requires scrap preparation, and begin work without explicit instructions from supervisor).
Operate with integrity, have a positive attitude, work with minimal supervision and with others as part of a team in a fast-paced, non-stop environment. Understand and carry out supervisors' instructions (written and verbal). Flexible to changing work conditions, assignments, reporting on time and working as scheduled. Working overtime may be required on weekends and weekdays.

Adhere to all local, state, OSHA, environmental and site specific regulations. Perform and document daily safety checks, follow all safety rules, wear PPE, provide a safe environment for all employees and visitors.
