Job description

Grinder

At Jagemann, we're looking for an experienced OD Grinder to join our second-shift tool room. You'll take ownership of surface, cylindrical, and form grinding, producing precision tools held to exacting standards. Choose your schedule: four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days.

What You'll Do

Core Machining Operations:

  • Setup and operate manual and precision grinding machines to process parts per customer specifications
  • Plan work sequences and determine cutting parameters (feeds, speeds, depths)
  • Work to close tolerances using precision measuring instruments

Programming & Setup:

  • Write and edit CNC programs from start to finish
  • Calculate dimensional relationships and input data directly into machine controllers
  • Design and develop custom holding fixtures and soft jaws for non-standard parts

Tool & Equipment Management:

  • Select appropriate cutting tools and maintain tool inventory
  • Perform preventive maintenance on CNC equipment
  • Sharpen non-insert tools as needed

Material Expertise:

  • Machine various materials including hardened steels and exotic materials like carbide
  • Determine appropriate speeds, feeds, and tools based on material characteristics

Support & Training:

  • Train and mentor CNC operators and/or apprentices
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support
  • Occasionally operate multiple machines simultaneously

Maintenance & Safety:

  • Maintain clean, organized work areas
  • Follow EHS procedures
  • Collaborate with vendors on parts and tooling needs

  • High school diploma plus specialized machine operation and metalworking training
  • Mazak programming certification
  • Partial completion of Machine Tool Operation curriculum
  • CAD/CAM and Solutionware training completion
  • 1-3 years of diversified toolroom and machining experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CNC lathe operation and setup
  • Strong understanding of machining characteristics for various materials
  • Ability to work to close tolerances with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Environmental Health & Safety procedures
