General Summary:

This position is the communications hub of the Medical Center and is responsible for handling all calls in a timely and courteous manner, responding to all inquiries in a timely fashion and providing information to callers that is accurate and up-to-date. This position is responsible for operating the Doctors’ Answering Service in an efficient and courteous manner. The Switchboard Operator also answers the emergency line and monitors all system alarms on a 24x7x365 basis and takes action in-line with the Safety Committee’s procedures.

Essential Functions:
  • Utilizes a pleasant telephone etiquette as observed by manager, peers, and user community.
  • Supports end users, by consistently providing reliable, timely and effective information to callers, as observed by supervisor, peers, and user community.
  • Handles call volume in a timely manner. based on call, and supervisors' observation.
  • Fills out the Daily Check List
  • Logs calls for Doctors’ Answering service.
  • Documents ALL events and incidents that may be an issue at a later date, such as Argumentative callers, failure to reach a doctor in a reasonable length of time, etc.
  • Promptly answers emergency line and pages clearly overhead.
  • Monitors alarm panels, security cameras and weather.
