San Francisco Bay Area | Full-time | Hybrid or In-office (role dependent)

Building Talent partners with architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms across the San Francisco Bay Area on ongoing and upcoming Accounting Manager and similar accounting leadership needs. This posting reflects roles we regularly support as firms grow, mature, and strengthen their internal finance and accounting operations.

We're connecting with Accounting Managers who have direct AEC experience and are comfortable overseeing day-to-day accounting functions while supporting the broader financial needs of project-based organizations. Depending on the firm, these roles may lean hands-on or more managerial, with close collaboration alongside principals, partners, or CFO leadership.

Core responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Manage general ledger activities and periodic financial reporting
  • Oversee A/P, billing, A/R, and coordination with payroll providers
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting
  • Ensure accurate and timely client invoicing and project-related billing
  • Manage sales tax filings, business tax reporting, and related compliance
  • Act as a financial liaison with banks, CPAs, auditors, and external advisors
  • Support audits, financial reviews, and ongoing process improvements
  • Partner with leadership to improve systems, workflows, and financial visibility

Required / preferred software experience

  • Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vision, or Deltek Vantagepoint (strongly preferred for architecture and engineering environments)
  • Sage 300 CRE / Sage Timberline, Viewpoint Vista or Spectrum, CMiC (commonly used in construction environments)
  • Advanced Excel skills (reporting, reconciliations, and analysis)
  • Experience working within project-based accounting systems

Backgrounds that tend to align well

  • Accounting Manager or senior accounting experience within architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) environments
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting and billing workflows
  • Experience supporting multiple concurrent projects or teams
  • Organized, detail-driven, and comfortable operating in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
  • Confident partner to operations, project teams, and firm leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience within an AEC environment
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Prior leadership or team oversight experience
  • Compensation varies by firm, role scope, and location and is commensurate with experience.
