Job description

The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative community with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish.
The Events Manger is a member of The Bowery Mission's Development Team that develops donor and volunteer relationships to raise critical funds and resources necessary to extend compassionate care and transform lives at The Bowery Mission. The Events Manager is responsible for the project management and execution of all fundraising and cultivation events that align with Development Team objectives. The Events Manager supervises the Events Coordinator. The Events Manager serves as the Project Manager of our capstone Thanksgiving Day event. The Events Manager is a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and understands how we communicate our organization's faith to different audiences.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Plan and manage multiple events well in advance, establishing overarching themes, goals, timelines, tasks, and milestones.
  • Lead regular planning meetings with stakeholders and internal teams to confirm goals, make decisions, and maintain alignment.
  • Assign and track tasks across teams using project management software, ensuring timely completion and accountability.
  • Oversee all event-related workflows including email communications, website updates, program/script development, video production, graphic design coordination, printing, and testimony planning.
  • Secure venues, audio-visual services, photographers, and other vendors, negotiating competitive pricing to steward organizational resources responsibly.
  • Track all incoming revenue for fundraising events with accuracy and timeliness, ensuring spending remains within approved budgets.
  • Partner with development caseload managers to coordinate communication with corporate and individual sponsors, including recognition, guest lists, and benefit.
  • Project manage the Mission's annual Thanksgiving Day Program, collaborating closely with Volunteer Services, Caseload managers, Food Services and other departments to ensure a positive experience for the Mission's community, volunteers and donors.
  • Work with Volunteer Services to ensure that the weeks leading up to and the day of Thanksgiving are organized and optimized for corporate and major donor participation.

Schedule: Weekends and evening work will be necessary in the weeks and days leading up to major events. The Events Manager must be able to work all of Thanksgiving week, including Thanksgiving Day. Regular weekly schedule is Monday - Friday 9:30 am - 6:00 pm.
Requirements:
  • Embrace's the organization's Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5 year's event planning experience.
  • Advanced software knowledge and use, including Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of print production, general design and font principles.
  • Working knowledge of event-related tools, technologies, and industry processes as stated in Technical & Industry Proficiency competency.

Preferred:
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or equivalent customer database.
  • Adobe Creative Suite proficiency (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment.
  • Fundraising/sales experience.

Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience: $70,000 - $75,000 annually.
