Job description

The Terminal Supervisor is responsible for the daily management of shift personnel and workflow throughout the operations department. The purpose of this position is to plan, manage and lead all operations activities within the department. This position will assist in other traffic, maintenance, engineering and EHSS related activities. This position is an in-office position that requires the employee to be present at the Geismar terminal during regular business hours.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team of operators who control, and monitor transfers of the various bulk liquid fine chemicals stored and handled at the facility. Coordinate and supervise product transfers to and from vessels, barges, rail cars, trucks, and pipelines (direct movements).
  • Physically control and monitor all terminal movements from a central control room.
  • Physically control and monitor the terminal's utility systems from a central control room. Interpret computer-based inventory control and order management systems and distribute the daily workload among the Operations team.

  • When necessary, verify automated tank gauging systems. Coordinate and interface with customer representatives and surveyors.
  • Coordinate first level mechanical maintenance on pumps, valves, filters, loading arms, etc.
  • Coordinate product movements from the tank farm.
  • Play a key role in responding to terminal emergencies such as spills and fire.
  • Operations Shift Supervisors will work in a shift rotation.
  • Drives and promotes safety throughout the site.
  • Participates in safety meetings and communication meetings.
  • Participates in incident investigations and takes action to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensures environmental policies and practices are followed and all spills are properly reported.
  • Ensures hazardous wastes generated are properly handled and not allowed to accumulate.
  • Coordinates with facility directors.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience in field operations, preferably in the chemical or petro-chemical industry.
  • Capable of playing a key role in the terminal emergency response organization.
  • Professional safety training and/or experience in industrial firefighting.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.

Skills and Abilities
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
  • Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions).
  • Capable of participating in the terminal emergency response organization
  • Proficient in the use of computer automated control and monitoring systems.
  • Computer literacy and/or experience with automated control and monitoring systems.
  • Strong supervisory skills, organizational skills, prioritization skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to direct and motivate employees towards the accomplishment of goals and objectives.
  • Ability to develop and implement operating procedures.
  • Capable of working at all levels of the organization with the ability to mentor.

Hours of Work
  • Typical hours of operation are Sunday through Saturday with rotating twelve-hour shifts.
  • This position is an in-office position that requires the employee to be present at the Geismar terminal during regular business hours.
  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Employees are scheduled to work assigned shifts within a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. All hours worked must be accurately recorded, and overtime is paid in accordance with FLSA and company policy.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice

  • This would require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary.
  • Ability to perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling and moderate lifting.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights.
  • Ability to wear and use a respirator and PPE.
  • Because the facility and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the labor force must be able to evacuate quickly from any location of the facility without assistance in an emergency.
