Assistant Terminal Manager - Langhorne, PA

Full-Time, Exempt Position
Position Summary
The Assistant Terminal Manager supports the Terminal Manager in leading day-to-day terminal operations, including production, repackaging, distribution, maintenance coordination, inventory control, safety, quality, environmental compliance, and employee development. This role helps ensure that products are processed, packaged, and shipped safely, on time, within quality standards, and in alignment with cost and operational objectives.
The Assistant Terminal Manager is expected to promote a strong safety culture, uphold food safety and quality requirements, support continuous improvement, and help ensure consistent execution of company policies and terminal procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
  • Support and promote a culture where safety, quality, food safety, and environmental compliance are core priorities.
  • Ensure employees follow all approved safety procedures, terminal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform required responsibilities outlined in the annual Safety Action Plan.
  • Support completion of all division-required action items related to safety, quality, environmental, food safety, and operational compliance.
  • Ensure the terminal complies with applicable Safety, Environmental, Quality, HACCP, GFSI, DOT, and company requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of HACCP requirements, prerequisite programs, and critical food safety steps that impact customers and product integrity.
  • Identify risks, address non-compliance, and support corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Operations and Production
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in directing repackaging, production, and distribution activities to meet customer expectations and business objectives.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust schedules to ensure products are completed and shipped on time and according to specifications.
  • Ensure production operations are cost-effective while maintaining established standards for safety, quality, quantity, and service.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support inventory control practices consistent with company policy.
  • Investigate opportunities to improve terminal processes, reduce cost, increase efficiency, and strengthen operational reliability.
  • Support and administer approved company policies and clearly communicate changes, expectations, and objectives to terminal employees.
Maintenance and Equipment
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repairs with the Maintenance Mechanic to ensure terminal facilities, equipment, vehicles, and fleet assets remain in safe and reliable operating condition.
  • Support proper maintenance of equipment needed to meet packaging, shipping, and logistics requirements.
  • Assist with review and approval of supplies, equipment, and other purchases necessary for efficient terminal operations.
People Leadership and Communication
  • Supervise, coach, train, and develop terminal employees to improve safety, quality, productivity, and overall performance.
  • Identify employee training needs and support or participate in training delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels and help reinforce company expectations.
  • Address employee concerns, operational issues, complaints, and performance matters in a timely and professional manner.
  • Build teamwork and accountability across terminal operations.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with trucking companies and logistics partners, including participation in regular meetings as needed.
Support to Terminal Manager
  • Act as a key operational partner to the Terminal Manager by helping execute terminal priorities, policies, performance goals, and improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership coverage and decision support as needed to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient terminal operations.
  • Support the successful administration of terminal functions and perform other related duties as assigned.
Food Safety Requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of HACCP requirements and applicable food safety programs.
  • Understand and enforce prerequisite programs.
  • Understand critical food safety steps in the process and their impact on product quality, customer requirements, and consumer safety.
  • Support compliance with food safety, quality systems, and customer expectations.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Previous experience in terminal operations, production, logistics, or food processing preferred.
  • Experience with GFSI compliance preferred.
  • DOT compliance and logistics experience preferred.
  • Maintenance experience with pumps and pneumatic systems preferred.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and develop production-level employees.
  • Strong understanding of safety, environmental, quality, and operational compliance expectations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines and contract specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, departments, trucking companies, and external partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Inventory management experience preferred.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, bend, reach, crouch, kneel, and work at heights.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to work in environments with possible exposure to high humidity, hot temperatures, and cold temperatures.
  • Ability to see color variations.
  • Must have good corrected distance, intermediate, and near vision.
  • Primary schedule is day shift; however, schedule flexibility is required, including the ability to work any of three shifts as needed for training, operational coverage, business needs, or special assignments.
  • Must be able to perform physical duties safely and in compliance with company procedures.
