PennLive is seeking a creative, digitally savvy Social Media Creator to enhance our Pittsburgh Food & Drink content.

This part-time position is ideal for a self-starter who understands how to tell compelling stories across platforms and can translate our journalism into engaging, social-first content social-first content that drives loyalty for readers, viewers and listeners.

The ideal candidate will create and publish content tailored for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, helping expand PennLive's reach and deepen audience engagement.

This includes producing social media cards, vertical video, short-form explainers and other platform-native content that complements and elevates our coverage both in western PA and across the nation.

We're looking for someone with a strong sense of visual storytelling and experience using design tools to create eye-catching graphics and videos. The right candidate will be proactive, creative and tuned into social trends, with the ability to move quickly on consumable topics.

Responsibilities include collaborating with reporters and editors, identifying content opportunities, optimizing posts for each platform and tracking performance to inform future strategy.

The pay rate for this position is $25.00 per hour. This is a part-time, temporary position for up to six months.

This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in social media presence and engagement
  • Proven experience building, maintaining and engaging audiences on social media platforms
  • Understanding of social media platforms and knowledge of their application for news
  • Deep interest in local news and knowledge of content trends
  • Working knowledge of analytics reporting suites for websites and social media
  • Ability to work independently, including remotely, and to prioritize tasks
  • Demonstrated writing and organizational skills
  • Comfort working across written, visual and audio platforms.
  • Tech-savvy at the content level; experience with animated gifs, manipulating photos, producing and editing video a plus
