As we continue to grow, we are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Department Supervisor in our Lawrence, KS location.
The department supervisor II is responsible for directing the departmental workforce. The department supervisor II will also coordinate all manufacturing operations, maintain schedules and administer discipline by employing a wide range of skills and techniques. All of this must be done within the prescribed policies and procedures of the company. The department supervisor II is charged with managing the most critical high-volume lines in the plant (EPS, RPS, or Shipping).
SHIFT: Wednesday through Friday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM CST and every other Saturday with the same start time.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Applies skills, knowledge, experience, available man-hours, machines, and tools effectively in order to obtain the most favorable costs and quality of workmanship.
  • Acts in a Production Manager capacity in the event of a temporary vacancy.
  • Acts in a Senior Management position on specified shifts in absence of the Manufacturing Team Lead.
  • Participates in and coordinates company programs. Example: Communications, apprenticeships, job training, team member appraisals, wage administration, etc.
  • Maintains conformance with rules and regulations and administers approved disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Collaborates with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel to provide information on matters relative to the design and utilization of tools, production methods, applications, etc.
  • Attends company-sponsored training classes and special classes to keep abreast of and well informed of new developments in regard to management, supervision and other job-related courses.
  • Records data on production, labor, team members, and scrap on a timely basis.
  • Maintains security of buildings, grounds, equipment, materials, and personnel.
  • Ensures accuracy of inventory and inventory management.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by Manager.

THE MOST IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES PERFORMED:
  • Organizes and assigns work to utilize skills, knowledge, experience, available man-hours, machines, and tools to obtain the most favorable costs and quality of workmanship.
  • Ensures the quality and accuracy of products and timely completion of schedules.
  • Maintains and trains an efficient work force in accordance with job requirements, work levels and schedules, man-hour requirements and training programs.
  • Policies, the use of safety devices and equipment, general housekeeping, and maintains a constant vigilance for hazardous conditions and practices.
  • Administers company policies and maintains a harmonious employer/team member relationship on the highest possible level.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs. unassisted with or without reasonable accommodation, continuously and frequently overhead. Lifting of more than 45 lbs requires team lifting of at least 2 people.
  • Frequently required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects ranging from 45 lbs to 80 lbs. Weights over 45 lbs require teamwork of at least 2 people.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time (8-12 hours daily).
  • Must be able to move about the manufacturing floor safely and efficiently.
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs and/or ladders may be required for specific work tasks.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require using hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to work in loud, fast paced industrial environment.
  • Manual dexterity and hand to eye coordination with hand/power tools.
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, tablet, and/or scanner may be required for specific work tasks.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS):
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a production environment.
  • Must have effective group/public speaking skills.
  • Must be capable of communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with hourly and management personnel.
  • Must have earned a BA in a business-related field or possess an equivalent level of experience.
  • Possess efficient and productive organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Possess mechanical competence and knowledge and use of safety conscious practices.
