We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Inspector/Resident Project Representative (RPR) to oversee and ensure the quality and compliance during the construction of civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting construction sites, reviewing plans and specifications, and ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with project requirements

THE ROLE

The Inspector/Resident Project Representative (RPR) plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of civil engineering projects by serving as the on-site liaison between the engineering team, contractors, and clients. This position is responsible for observing and documenting all phases of construction to ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide on-site observations/inspections of various types of civil engineering projects including roads (asphalt and concrete), bridges, buildings, and subsurface utilities (water, sewer, and drainage)
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and construction plans for knowledge of project requirements
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with project plans and specifications
  • Observe construction activities for adherence to safety regulations and quality standards
  • Document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports for project engineers/managers and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and government agencies to resolve issues and ensure project success
  • Verify materials and workmanship meet required specifications
  • Provide project manager/engineer possible recommendations for corrective actions when deficiencies are identified
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and project progress
  • Record and tracking quantities of contract/construction items installed on a daily basis
  • Knowledge of and routine observations of temporary traffic control signs and devices
  • Have a good and calm demeanor when interacting with the client and general public

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum [5] years of experience in the inspection and construction oversight of civil engineering projects
  • LADOTD Certifications in any of the following is preferred:
    • Embankment and Base Course
    • PCC Paving
    • Asphalt Concrete Mixture (ACM) Paving
    • Structural Concrete
  • Knowledgeable in the latest edition of the Louisiana Standard Specification for Roads and Bridges
  • Knowledgeable in various regulatory standards
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations
  • Knowledgeable in necessary material testing requirements
  • Proficiency in inspection tools and software (e.g., Procore, Headlight and/or MS Office)
  • Proficient in the use of computers and iPads
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple inspection tasks
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver's license


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Fieldwork in various weather conditions and terrain
  • Possible work on weekends
  • Occasional office-based tasks for documentation and reporting
  • May require travel to multiple project sites
