Job description

We are seeking HR/Employee Relations Specialist to support multiple active project sites in the Boydton/Clarksville, Virginia area. This highly visible, field-based HR role partners closely with project leadership and employees to foster a positive workplace culture, resolve employee concerns, and ensure consistent HR practices across multiple construction sites. Relocation assistance and temporary housing are available for qualified candidates.

What You'll Do as the Employee Relations Specialist:

  • Serve as the primary Employee Relations partner for multiple active construction project sites
  • Build trusted relationships with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field employees
  • Conduct workplace investigations involving employee complaints, policy concerns, performance issues, and other employee relations matters
  • Coach leaders through performance management, corrective action, conflict resolution, and employee development
  • Provide guidance on company policies, employment law, and HR best practices
  • Promote fair, consistent, and compliant employee relations practices across all assigned locations
  • Support onboarding activities, employee engagement initiatives, and HR communications
  • Travel regularly between nearby project sites to maintain a visible field presence
  • Maintain thorough documentation of investigations and employee relations activities
  • Act as a trusted advisor who balances employee advocacy with business needs

Must-Haves as the Employee Relations Specialist:

  • 5+ years of Employee Relations or Human Resources experience
  • Demonstrated experience independently conducting workplace investigations
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations principles, employment law, and HR best practices
  • Excellent communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build credibility with operational leaders in fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable working primarily in the field rather than a traditional office setting
  • Willingness to relocate to the Boydton/Clarksville, Virginia area

Nice-to-Haves as the Employee Relations Specialist:

  • Experience supporting construction, manufacturing, industrial, utilities, logistics, energy, or other operational workforces
  • Spanish bilingual proficiency
  • Experience partnering with field leadership on large-scale or multi-site operations
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
