Extraordinary Projects need Exceptional Talent
As an Electrical Engineer at Frontier-Kemper, you will play a key role in the design, fabrication, and installation of power distribution and control systems supporting our heavy civil construction and mining divisions.
This position is responsible for the analysis, engineering, design, and procurement of electrical equipment used on our temporary mining sites and tunnel boring machine (TBM) projects. You will work closely with engineers, vendors, and field teams to ensure all systems meet performance requirements and engineering best practices. This is a dynamic, hands-on position requiring adaptability to the day-to-day operations of active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply creativity and strategic thinking to anticipate and resolve engineering challenges during construction while maintaining project objectives and requirements
  • Design and specify medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems for mining and heavy civil construction projects
  • Perform fault current calculations, arc flash analyses, and coordination studies for power distribution systems
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, directing the efforts of engineers and designers
  • Prepare and present project documentation including calculations, drawings, and technical reports
  • Perform equipment take-offs from design drawings and coordinate procurement
  • Collaborate with vendors to acquire and specify off-the-shelf components
  • Review designs for fit, function, and accuracy to ensure compliance with standards
  • Ensure final deliverables meet customer requirements and internal design standards
  • Travel intermittently to project and customer sites to support field teams and contractors

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in electrical engineering
  • Experience designing temporary power systems for mining or tunneling projects preferred
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or the ability to obtain licensure within 2 years (preferred)
  • Proficiency with EasyPower or similar power system analysis software (training available for the right candidate)
  • Additional beneficial skills: Autodesk Electrical or LT, Revit, Document Control, Hydraulic Systems knowledge, and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10-20%
