SUMMARY
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a temporary student position responsible for supervising and supporting piano camp participants throughout the duration of the camp. Responsible for ensuring camper safety, assisting with musical development, and maintaining a structured and positive residential camp environment. Works under general supervision, with some latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to Director of Choral Activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. Must be a music major.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided. Experience in piano performance, music instruction, or working with students in a camp or educational setting is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Supervises middle and high school students during daily activities and ensure their safety and well-being.
  2. Remains available for all hours of camp operations.
  3. Resides in assigned on-campus dormitories with students, and eat meals with students in the campus cafeteria.
  4. Demonstrates leadership, professionalism, and positive behavior at all time.
  5. Fosters a supportive and encouraging environment for musical and personal growth.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESThe individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  1. Knowledge of musical performance principles, particularly within a choral setting.
  2. Skill in musical execution, including pitch, tone, and ensemble coordination in choir.
  3. Skill in leadership and organizing group activities in a structured environment.
  4. Skill in effective communication and interpersonal interaction with varied groups.
  5. Ability to work extended hours in a structured camp setting while maintaining performance and focus.
  6. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and collaborate effectively with staff and campers.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT
Applicants will be required to complete Minor Training and a background check in Ideal-Logic.
Applicants who are enrolled in a Summer II course will not be eligible for hire.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
