Job Summary
The Gifts of Art program at Michigan Medicine invites applications for the position of Musician for the Hospital Music Program. This is a 20 hour a week position. Basic duties include playing appropriate music in public spaces within the hospital facilities. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of appropriate repertoire styles for healthcare environments, and be familiar with issues of general hospital operations, as well as medical, emotional and ethical issues related to patients, staff and visitors in hospitals.
This position is for a highly skilled musician who provides live acoustic music in public spaces throughout the University of Michigan Health System to create a calming, supportive environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. This position requires exceptional musical sensitivity, the ability to improvise continuously in response to changing clinical environments, and an understanding that music serves as a therapeutic resource rather than a performance.
In addition to providing live music, this position supports the Gifts of Art Music Program's audiovisual and other special initiatives as needed.

- Provide comforting live acoustic music in public spaces within UMH Hospitals
- Assist with recorded and streamed music production and programming as needed
- Provide music for special programs in UMH

Supervision Received
General supervision from Gifts of Art Director.
Required Qualifications*
- Demonstrate musical proficiency on primary instrument
- College degree in music on primary instrument or equivalent training and expertise
- Proficient in a wide range of musical styles and genres
- Skilled in improvisation on instrument
- Ability to play seamlessly for extended periods of time
- Provide own instrument, rig and transportation
- Be able to transport own instrument and accessory equipment throughout the hospitals without assistance
- Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, visitors and staff
- Understand their music is of service rather than a performance
- Minimum 2-year experience as a musician in a healthcare facility
- Knowledge of and experience with audiovisual production tools and software
Desired Qualifications*
- 3 years' experience providing music in a healthcare facility
- Training, certification or equivalent in music as service
- Demonstrated experience leading wellness events with music
- Demonstrated experience in Multimedia Arts and Technology
- Demonstrated expertise/certifications in audiovisual production software
- Working knowledge of social media channels
