Packaging Operator
Rushville, IN
Job Scope:
The Packaging Operator is to be proficient in every aspect of properly operating various packing machines on lines to weight accurate fill specified orders at the highest reasonable speed. The Operator maintains quality, operates equipment, and performs all associated processing activities. They will set up, calibrate, operate, monitor, and perform basic trouble shooting of packaging equipment to meet product requirements. Ensure required changeovers are completed accurately and efficiently. Perform QC duties as necessary. Accountable for personal safety, behavior, and performance. Participate in a full facility and equipment clean up as directed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • As directed and trained, operate packing line machinery as directed to fill shift orders.
  • Operate and perform routine adjustments and changeover functions. Specific examples would be adjustments for different bag configuration, to meet orders and load pallets, ensuing pallet centering based on bag package parameters.
  • Operate printer and apply proper tags as trained.
  • Perform and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform product fill, seal, and stack configurations.
  • Keep bags, pallets and cardboard available for proper stacking always.
  • Troubleshoot minor bagging and package operating problems.
  • Repair any damaged pallets or bags before shift is over.
  • Communicate production status to oncoming shift personnel.
  • Maintain communication with maintenance personnel on major machine issues.
  • Working overtime is MANDATORY and requires full participation.
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform all functions in accordance with sound safety practices and procedures.
  • Report all safety violations and safety hazards to Shift Supervisor immediately.
  • Be an employee champion who will maintain a strong and positive working relationship with all employees with the utmost integrity, confidentiality, and ethical values.

Additional Job Functions:
  • Assist in maintaining a positive team environment and good working relationship by maintaining a positive attitude toward all Diamond team members, vendors, and customers.
  • Participate effectively in a team atmosphere by modeling and promoting conflict resolution, diversity, ethical practices, and organizational citizenship.
  • Responsible for other duties as deemed necessary by Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must have ability to accept temporary assignment changes to assist other areas of the plant.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds of product routinely and climb a ladder to maintenance equipment from a catwalk.
  • Must be certified to operate forklifts.
  • Responsible for communicating production status to oncoming shift personnel.
  • Must work in a safe, professional manner always.
  • Must report any accidents, property damage, or near misses to a supervisor immediately.
  • Must be willing to/have availability to work any shift (day or night shift).
  • Ability to work independently without immediate direction or oversight. Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively communicate in a professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (communication, listening, team player, cooperative, approachable).

Education & Experience Recommendations:
  • Packaging experience at a food processing facility preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
