Visit Milwaukee offers internship opportunities that provide undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on experience in destination marketing, tourism and hospitality. Internships support professional development, practical skill-building and exposure to the work of a destination marketing organization.


The Graphic Design Intern will work alongside Visit Milwaukee's marketing and creative team to support projects that promote Milwaukee as a premier destination for leisure travel, meetings, conventions and events.


INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

The Graphic Design Intern will assist with the development and production of creative materials across print, digital, social media, email and web. A primary focus will be Visit Milwaukee's fall print initiatives, including the Official Visitors Guide and Official Visitors Map. The intern will support page layout, production updates, asset organization, proofing and final file preparation while gaining experience in brand management, publication workflows and creative collaboration.

Additional assignments may support Visit Milwaukee campaigns, partner programs, events, advertising initiatives and internal departments based on organizational priorities and the intern's professional-

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist with the development and execution of creative marketing projects across print, digital, photography and video
  • Complete design and production requests in a fast-paced environment while meeting established deadlines
  • Create and adapt materials for publications, campaigns, brochures, newsletters, annual reports, print and digital ads, presentations, invitations, signage, displays, logos and website graphics
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and marketing team to develop work that supports organizational strategies, brand standards and project deadlines
  • Organize and maintain Visit Milwaukee's photo, video and creative asset libraries
  • Support photo and video shoots, events and other special assignments as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in graphic design, visual communications, advertising or a related field
  • Junior or senior standing preferred
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat; familiarity with Microsoft Office and Canva
  • Photography, video editing, motion graphics or CapCut experience is a plus
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and apply constructive feedback
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and committed to accuracy
  • Strong design fundamentals with a demonstrated focus on creativity and quality
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to fostering a welcoming, inclusive workplace
  • Availability to work 15-20 hours per week during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at a desk, operate a computer and view a screen for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate by telephone, video call and in person
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move boxes or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Local travel may occasionally be required

This is a paid internship and may be eligible for academic credit as defined by the intern's academic institution.
 

The work schedule will be determined by the supervisor and intern and will fall within normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive; the intern may perform other related duties as needed to support the organization.
