Chemistry Lab Technician

Job Description

The Chemistry Lab Technician will perform sugar content testing on honey samples, focusing on fructose and sucrose analysis for both raw and bottled products. Approximately 80% of the role involves hands-on laboratory work using HPLC, while 20% involves data entry, documentation, and retain sample management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sugar (fructose and sucrose) content testing on raw and bottled honey samples using HPLC, running approximately 30 samples per day.
  • Collect raw honey samples and samples from bottling production lines and transport them to the lab for testing in a timely and organized manner.
  • Manage the retain sample process for both raw honey and post-processing (bottling) retains, ensuring all samples are properly handled and stored.
  • Stage, catalog, and maintain an organized system for retain samples that allows easy reference to samples from multiple years in the past.
  • Use Excel to accurately record and report HPLC analysis results, including batch numbers, retain numbers, lot numbers, temperatures, and best-by dates.
  • Conduct crystallization testing on retain samples that are approaching their best-by date and prepare these samples for extended storage.
  • Box and store retain samples for one additional year beyond their best-by dates according to established procedures.
  • Communicate effectively via email with warehouse and quality assurance (QA) teams to coordinate sample collection, testing schedules, and results.
  • Support quality control processes by ensuring data accuracy, proper documentation, and adherence to lab and food safety procedures.
  • Work autonomously in the lab, prioritizing tasks and managing workload with minimal oversight while maintaining high standards of accuracy and organization.
  • Contribute to audit readiness by maintaining clear, complete, and organized records related to testing and retain sample management.
  • Collaborate with QA and warehouse teams to address sample-related questions and support continuous improvement in lab and production processes.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Food Science.
  • 6–12 months of hands-on HPLC experience in an academic, research, or industrial setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Food Science or Chemistry degree with a focus or coursework related to the food industry.
  • Internship experience in the food industry or a food-related laboratory is a significant plus.

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $47840.00/yr.
