The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", IT Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Epic Analyst-Hospital Billing to work in a hybridmanner on the UHealth campus in Miami, Florida.

The Epic Analyst 3 - Hospital Billing initiates the implementation, builds, and modifies complex applications, and collaborates with key stakeholders, end-users, and application team members to optimize the application's configuration, function, and access. The incumbent supports junior staff members in day-to-day operations and resolving application issues.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manages and augments the development and maintenance of clinical application systems. Ensures adequate communication is maintained regarding all project status and priorities.

  • Proactively performs analysis on current operational workflows, systems, and technology in order to recommend and implement changes or enhancements that will improve operations and further promote the organization's strategic vision and goals.

  • Functions as an independent application project lead for a module or system. Acts as mentor, new hire trainer, and expert for application and technical teams, and other areas during implementation rollout efforts, in the on-going management of user requests, issues, and delivery of application enhancements.

  • Defines information clinical systems requirements jointly working with management and professional staff in user departments. Ensures user requirements are successfully translated into technology-enabled solutions for new implementations and future feature functionality.

  • Collaborates with user departments to identify, analyze, and continuously evaluate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) relative to the supported applications. Expert in working with users to create application reports to support operational needs.

Department Specific Functions

  • Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operation time, and form of desired results. Includes analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper Systems requirement specifications.

  • Applies technical knowledge of all phases of Systems analysis

  • Instructs, directs, and checks the work of less experienced Business Systems Analysts. Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of project and meeting deadlines of project. Familiar with the systems scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member in order to effectively coordinate the activities of the work team.

  • Prepare project plans, which includes definition, scope, resources, and schedule.

  • Allocate resources based upon the magnitude and necessity of the project. Prioritize projects and tasks in order to achieve department and Company objectives. Ensures adequate communication is maintained regarding all project status and priorities.

  • Manage and augment the development and maintenance of BI application systems by conducting meetings with the users to determine their system requirements. Consults with functional area management regarding the status of specific projects.

  • Develop detail system design which support the system requirements. Conduct technical reviews and walk-through of IT design documentation with development and design team members. Review and critique the technical documentation of other systems to assure quality products.

  • Provide support for designated application systems. Augment and facilitate the design, development, implementation of enhancements to existing BI business systems.

  • Develop working relationships with a diverse group of business people and gain an understanding of the complex nature of the Company's business and reporting needs. Maintain familiarity with the business plans of the Company and the departments serviced.

  • Define Business Intelligence requirements jointly working with management and professional staff in user departments. Technical solutions must satisfy the business needs for the future, i.e., take into account Company growth and customer service objectives.

  • Develop overall project plans for major efforts that satisfy the business needs of that functional area for review and approval by management. Also responsible for assisting user management in setting priorities within that functional area.

  • Provide reporting innovation to user areas and contribute to improve the function, reliability and quality of services from Systems. Provide guidance in creating standards, testing procedures, version control, etc. Maintain a professional awareness of tools and techniques that might be used to improve the quality of service.

  • May participate in the interviewing, hiring and performance appraisals of lower level people.

  • Firm Knowledge of Micro Strategy software

  • Ability to design effective user interfaces in BI products

  • Other duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Epic HB Analyst in a healthcare setting.

  • Familiarity with Epic tools such as Chronicles, Clarity, Charge Router, Contracts, WQ, DNB, and Reporting Workbench preferred.

  • Experience working in a multi-hospital or integrated delivery network environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of CMS regulations, payer requirements, and billing compliance preferred

  • Epic HB certification required; additional Epic certifications (e.g., PB, Resolute) preferred.

  • Strong understanding of hospital billing workflows and revenue cycle operations preferred.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills preferred.

  • Experience with Epic upgrade cycles, testing, and documentation preferred.

  • Familiar with state-of-the-art technology

  • Major systems development and implementation experience

  • Strong project management, team facilitation and control

  • Ability to communicate ideas and problem solutions

  • Ability to effectively work with people in other departments and/or outside of the enterprise.

  • Understanding of Business Intelligence as a field and how the discipline applies to the UM environment
