Job description

PrideStaff is seeking an experienced Enrolled Agent for our client in North County San Diego. This is a remote position but the associate must live locally for in person meetings. Interested and qualified for this position? Give us a call.
Position: Enrolled Agent
Pay Rate: $36/hr-$45/hr DOE
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm
Location: Remote position (Must live locally to North County San Diego)

Remote — Temp-to-Hire — $75,000–$95,000 + bonus potential
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Enrolled Agent (EA) to own substantive case work — not to support it from the sidelines. You will take matters from intake to filing-ready: building workpapers, analyzing financial records, drafting forms and submissions, communicating with clients and tax agencies, and moving each case forward. Attorneys set strategy and review key decisions; you own execution.
Responsibilities:
• Own a caseload of substantive matters — IRS and state collections, IRS/FTB income tax audits,
EDD employment tax audits, CDTFA sales tax audits, appeals, Tax Court, innocent spouse, and tax consulting — advancing each from intake through resolution.
• Analyze financial records — tax returns, account transcripts, financial statements, general ledgers, and bank records — and build the workpapers (BDA, financial analysis, audit, and sales tax) that drive case strategy.
• Draft substantive work product — IRS forms (433-A, CDP requests, penalty abatement requests, appeals), Tax Court petitions, and FOIA and TAS requests — ready for attorney review rather than attorney redo.
• Work directly with tax agencies — obtain Powers of Attorney, pull and review account and Wage & Income transcripts, respond to information requests, and follow up with agency personnel at IRS, FTB, CDTFA, and EDD.
• Conduct legal and factual research using AI tools (Blue J, Protégé) and traditional platforms (Lexis, IRM), and draft clear memos for internal and client use.
• Keep clients informed and confident — gather documents, provide plain-English status updates, and make sure no client ever wonders what is happening on their case.
• Manage each file end to end — clean setup, deadline and budget tracking, retainer awareness, and complete closings.
• Collaborate daily with attorneys and teammates — strategy meetings, a short daily check-in, and mutual backup when volume spikes.
Qualifications
Required
• 3–7 years of relevant experience in a tax, paralegal, or accounting environment
• Demonstrated comfort working with financial data — tax returns, account transcripts, financial statements, general ledgers
• Proven ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and decide the next step from the file rather than from instructions
• A collaborative working style — communicates proactively, shares information freely, and works well on a small, tight team
• Excellent written and verbal communication with clients and tax agency personnel
• High attention to detail and a track record of catching inconsistencies in financial or tax data
• Strong organizational habits and comfort with case management systems, checklists, and new technology
Strongly Preferred
• Enrolled Agent (EA) license
• Direct experience interacting with IRS, FTB, CDTFA, or EDD
• Prior experience drafting IRS forms (433-A, CDP, penalty abatement, appeals)
