Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ's relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client's needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential.
A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and finance operations. This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative finance leader who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and using financial insights to support an organization's long-term impact.
Overview
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and day-to-day finance operations. This role partners closely with executive leadership, supports board reporting, and helps strengthen the organization's financial infrastructure while ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and grants administration
  • Oversee financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Direct the annual audit process and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and strong internal controls
  • Support organizational budgeting and provide financial guidance to senior leadership
  • Manage banking relationships and oversee treasury activities
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen financial operations
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with at least 4 years in a leadership role
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred, including grants and contract management
  • Experience leading audits, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
