Job Title: Engineering Manager

Location: Sussex, WI

 

Position Summary:

We are seeking an adaptable and results-driven Engineering Manager to lead our Process and Project Engineering team within Pregis' Automated Mailing and Bagging business.  The Manager of Process and Project Engineering is a dual-focus leadership role responsible for optimizing existing manufacturing processes while driving new capital projects from concept to completion. This role leads a team of engineers and technicians to improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost-effectiveness. The manager acts as the technical liaison between NPD, operations, maintenance, and quality to ensure sustainable and scalable production.

The ideal candidate brings a solid background in engineering and manufacturing, preferably in flexible packaging industry.   Preferably, this individual will come with deep technical manufacturing expertise, demonstrated project management experience (specifically in capital projects), and strong leadership skills to lead multi-disciplinary team.  In addition to CI, Quality, Operations, and Maintenance, this role will collaborate closely with New Product Development (NPD) as well as the Value Creation team for Materials and Converting Development. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, build, and develop a high-performing engineering team supporting extrusion, printing, and converting operations.
  • Set yearly performance goals (PMP), conduct evaluations, and provide coaching.
  • Partner closely with NPD and Value Creation to align engineering resources and priorities within the New Product Commercialization process.
  • Drive standardization across all converting platforms to improve repeatability, maintainability, and operator safety.
  • Ensure all equipment and systems meet regulatory and internal safety standards.
  • Support both plant locations on process optimization, quality improvements, automation upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Drive continuous improvement by researching, and recommending, developing and implementing equipment to improve capacity, quality, reliability, and cost.
  • Responsible for capital project management from justification to the implementation of manufacturing equipment. This includes the development equipment specifications, project plans, capital appropriations requests and tracks progress while keeping the internal customers informed on project status.
  • Perform root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone, Pareto) for process deviations, production issues, and quality failures.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), process controls, and documentation (e.g., P&ID, D/PFMEA, SPC/SQC).
  • Partner with CI & Quality to improve process capability and reduce scrap.
  • Oversee plant modernization efforts, facility layouts, and equipment upgrades.
  • Work with Value Creation team to develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the manufacturing technology roadmap.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Exceptional communication skills and leadership abilities
  • Ability to break down technical narratives and present clearly to senior leadership
  • Strong understanding of automation, PLC programming, robotics, and CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred), and SPC
  • Strong financial acumen for budgeting, CapEx planning, and cost reduction modeling
  • Proven success leading cross-functional teams in capital equipment installation and process optimization
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing setting (onsite) with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
  • Ability to travel (typically 10-30%) for vendor meetings or equipment FATs.
